About the Role
VDC Engineer III is a senior position oriented toward subject matter expertise and project management. In this position, you will take your skills to the next level leading projects, solving complex interdisciplinary problems, overseeing other VDC Engineers, and using your skills to improve project quality and outcomes. This position is a launching pad for greater industry recognition with opportunities to publish and present on your work, and to join professional organizations.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Oversee project model setup and management: directory structure, model files, shared
- coordinates, worksets and phases, and model exchanges.
- Develop strategies and plans to create models and other VDC deliverables.
- Understand different standards and their suitability for different types of project work/ clientele.
- Develop standards, best practices, and templates as required, for either projects or inhouse initiatives.
- Mentor VDC Engineers I and II.
- Oversee, manage, direct, and perform complex interdisciplinary 3D coordination (clash detection) efforts.
- Develop and lead research initiatives in conjunction with VDC Management. Supervise research by others.
- Oversee development, augmentation, and implementation of EnTech and agency-specific BIM standards.
- Must be willing to work on-site with client project teams.
- Oversee QA/QC and BIM management for various platforms, disciplines, and services.
- Manage project deliverables with responsibility for meeting time and budget goals.
- Evaluate person-hours and skill-sets and allocate resources accordingly.
- Support proposals with estimates, writing, planning, marketing, and outreach.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Architecture, Engineering, Civil Engineering, Construction
- Management or AEC-related discipline preferred.
- 5+ experience in architecture/engineering/construction and BIM/VDC. At least 2 years managerial or team leadership experience.
Required Skills:
- Advanced expertise in the generation and development of BIM models, drawings, project
- management applications within Revit, BIM360, Navisworks, and AutoCAD.
- Familiarity with one or more VDC tools such as: Bentley Open Buildings, Solibri, GIS, and others.
- Specialized expertise in one or more aspects of VDC.
- Expertise in understanding and interpreting an array of design, construction, and fabrication
- documents for major disciplines. In-depth understanding of multiple disciplines.
- Preferred Software Skills
- Revit / Dynamo
- Navisworks / Syncro
- Bentley OpenBuildings / Microstation
- 3D Laser Scanning (LiDAR, SLAM, Drone)
- Autodesk BIM360 or Construction Cloud
- Optional: Rhino, Grasshopper, Civil 3D, ArcGIS, AutoCAD, Primavera, Maximo
- Interest or experience in aerial drone and aerial photography is a strong plus.
